Pinball Clemons

The only relation to Pinball on this page is the person leaning over my shoulder in this photo.

Mike "Pinball" Clemons is the former star running back of the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He won 3 Grey Cup Championships with the team in 1991, 1996 and 1997, and added another as their coach in 2004. He holds the pro football record (That's CFL and NFL) for most combined yards in a career - 25,396 in 12 seasons as a player. Mike is a graduate in economics from William and Mary University.

I had the opportunity to meet Mike in January 2009 in Red Deer , Alberta. My company had hired him as a guest speaker for our "Safety Stand Down Week" presentations, an annual event every January in the Oil and Gas sector. Mike is a gifted public speaker and motivator and certainly lived up to our expectations for this event. I had the opportunity ask him about how he earned his nickname. "After 24 years of never having a nickname I arrived at the Argos camp in 1989. Head Coach Bob O'Billiovich (the only coach to have more wins for the Argos than Mike) spoke to the media about me saying we have this running back Mike Clemons who looks like a pinball bouncing around the field - and the nickname was born." I used to be an Argo fan when I lived in Toronto - Mike is now the CEO of the Argos and was very gracious when I told him I am now a season ticket holder for the Calgary Stampeders - 2008 Grey Cup Champions! ARRRRRRRRRRR-GOESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
