Creature From The Black Lagoon
In 3D

Just picked up this game from a fellow collector in Edmonton. I originally owned one of these games a few years ago and then sold it off. But it's a game that really completes a collection in that it is unlike most modern pinball games.

Essentially the game represents a typical Drive-In movie theatre from the 1950's - the Starlight Drive-In. Capturing the elements of all drive-ins this game is a classic for retro buffs. There is the kid in the trunk of the car trying to sneak in, the big car that pulls in front of you blocking your view, the Snack bar ( is now open!), the playground for younger kids, the lovers making out in the car, and the classic sounds of those terrible little speakers. And of course the great cars from the 50's as well.

Completing this scene is a classic B-movie in it's own right, the Creature From the Black Lagoon in 3D. I remember seeing this as a kid and they handed out 3D glasses to complete the effect. The pinball captures part of the movie throught Dot matrix animation, but the best effect is the hologram that sits below the playfield and flashes the Creature as it "rises" out of the water.

Here are some pictures.
